2021 marked the 65th Anniversary of the BRITISH ASSOCIATION OF SINGAPORE.
The British Association of Singapore was started in 1956 as the British European Association.
It was formed to look after the welfare and finances of British people living in Singapore as the country moved towards independence.
The British Association of Singapore is a not-for-profit organisation which is open to all nationalities from around the world.
The BA provides a warm welcome for British newcomers to Singapore as well as any nationality who is keen to join us.
We offer a variety of recreational activities in various locations throughout Singapore.
The British Association has a long and auspicious history where we were instrumental in starting schools and hospitals such as Gleneagles, Tanglin Trust School and United World College as well as The British Club and providing housing for the elderly.
The British Association of Singapore is run on a voluntary basis, and today provides many different activities and events for members, as well as supporting local charities both financially and with practical support.
The BA is run by an elected Council of volunteers, for which any member can stand, being proposed by two other members and agreed at the AGM. The Council is led by an elected Chairperson.
The BA traditionally invites the British High Commissioner and their spouse to be its Patrons.
The BA enjoys a good relationship with the High Commissioner and are regularly invited to hold events at Eden Hall, the High Commissioner’s official Residence on Nassim Road.
These invitations have included Christmas Carols at Eden Hall, the AGM and the Volunteers’ Tea.
Join the BA now and enjoy all the fun in social activities, sports, book clubs, walks, food and access to the British Club on certain days.
