Healthy summer snacks
Summer is a wonderful time of year, school’s out so no more early alarm, most people are heading off to spend a week or more relaxing on a beach or visiting relatives, the roads are quieter, everyone seems happy and the pace of life slows down.
Whilst this is all wonderful, during the summer holidays, and indeed during any other holiday season, it is a time when it is easy to slip into unhealthy eating habits: An ice cream at the beach, a cup of tea and a cookie mid afternoon, some cheese and crackers with a glass of wine in the evening - all these things can derail your healthy eating.
But it’s not necessary to give up those little mouth-watering delights. I’ve compiled a few alternatives that you can reach for when you fancy something ‘naughty’ but want to keep a check on the calorie intake. Most of these are very simple to make, or easily bought in the supermarket.
Greek yogurt topped with berries of your choice - strawberries, raspberries, blueberries - makes a delicious snack or dessert.
If you’re craving some ice cream try some frozen Greek yogurt instead. This is delicious on its own, or also paired with berries of your choice
