Please read these terms carefully. By becoming a member of The BA, you agree to abide by these conditions*

We are delighted to welcome you to the British Association of Singapore (The BA). As a community-led, volunteer-run organisation, our goal is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for people of all nationalities living in Singapore.
By applying for or renewing your membership, you agree to the following terms and conditions.

2.1 Eligibility
Membership is open to individuals aged 18 and above, regardless of nationality. Organisations may apply for Corporate Membership and nominate individuals as Associate Members.
All members, whether individual, corporate, or associate, are subject to these Terms and Conditions and the BA Constitution. Membership entitlements and voting rights for each class of member are as defined in The BA Constitution.
2.2 Duration and Renewal
Membership runs on an annual basis and may be renewed yearly.
2.3 Termination and Suspension
Membership may be suspended or terminated at the discretion of the Council if:
A member breaches the Code of Conduct
A member acts in a way that brings The BA into disrepute
Membership dues remain unpaid after a grace period
Any other reasonable ground as determined by the Council.
Where possible, the Council will provide written notice and allow the member to respond before a final decision is made. Council decisions on membership status are final and binding.

All members are expected to:
Treat others with respect and dignity
Support an inclusive and welcoming environment
Refrain from harassment, discrimination, or abuse
Refrain from any words or actions that could reasonably be expected to cause distress or anguish to other members, volunteers, organisers, partners, or vendors
Comply with Singaporean laws, the BA Constitution, these Terms and Conditions of Membership, and any The BA policies.

By signing up for or attending any The BA event or activity, you:
Accept that participation is at your own risk
Confirm that you are medically fit to participate
Release and discharge The BA and its volunteers from all liability for injury, loss, or damage arising from participation
Acknowledge that you are responsible for managing allergies or other personal medical risks.
This waiver applies to all individuals participating in The BA events or activities, including members, household dependents, and corporate nominees.
You should consult a medical professional if you are unsure whether participation is suitable for you.

By attending The BA events, you grant consent to being photographed or recorded. The BA may use such images or recordings for promotional purposes on social media, websites, and printed materials. You waive any rights to approve or receive compensation for such use.

6.1 Data We Collect
We collect your name, contact details, membership application data, event participation history, feedback, and relevant correspondence.
6.2 How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
Manage membership and event registrations
Communicate The BA news and updates
Improve services and engagement
Comply with legal or regulatory obligations.
6.3 Sharing Data
Your data may be shared with event partners (e.g. venues, caterers) for logistics and safety purposes. We do not sell or misuse your personal data.
6.4 Data Security and Retention
We take appropriate security measures to protect your information and will retain it only as long as necessary.

You may request access to or correction of your personal data at any time by contacting: info@britishassociation.org.sg

We may contact you via email, WhatsApp or other messaging services, SMS, or social media regarding your membership, upcoming events, or related information. You may opt out at any time by following unsubscribe links or contacting us directly.

The Council reserves the right to investigate and take action against members who:
Breach the Code of Conduct
Act against the interests of the Association
Disrupt The BA operations or community harmony.
Actions may include written warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent termination of membership. Members will be notified in writing and given an opportunity to respond. Council decisions are final.

Membership fees are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the Council. Event fees are non-refundable, unless notice of cancellation is provided in accordance with event-specific terms.

These terms are governed by and shall be interpreted in accordance with the laws of Singapore. Any disputes shall be resolved under the jurisdiction of Singaporean courts.

These terms may be updated from time to time. You will be notified via email and/or through our website. Continued membership constitutes acceptance of any updated terms.
