Thaipusam is one of the most important, interesting and colourful festivals in the Hindu calendar. This is a tour you, your visitors and photographers must not miss!
Our guide Charlotte Chu will tell us about the legends and rituals of Thaipusam – during which devotees enter a trance-like state prior to carrying the heavy, richly decorated ‘Kavadis” from the temple in Serangoon Road to a second temple Hindu temple 4 km away. The procession is wonderfully colourful and you will be enthralled with the atmosphere of incense, music, chanting and clapping from the participants and the onlookers. We see the preparations for the walk at the first temple – the prayers, the chanting, the insertion of the kavadi spears. Wonderfully dressed families are there to support the men and women who are taking part of the ceremony. Our bus then takes us to the second temple where you can witness the devotees complete the ceremony.
Please dress modestly and put on ‘easy to slip-off’ shoes. Bring some water and an umbrella.
