About the British Association

It is always interesting to see the origin and history of a club or organisation (see link below). It is especially so in the case of an organisation like ours which is run on a voluntary basis, which provides so many different activities for members, gives support to local charities and generally makes our stay in Singapore more fulfilling.
Of course, for things to run smoothly we need a Committee or "Council" of volunteers lead by an elected Chairman, who is currently Drena Allcard (from April 30, 2013). The importance of the role the Chairman plays cannot be underestimated and the Association is very grateful to the time and energy he/she puts in. The link below takes you to a hall of fame listing of all Chairmen, past and present, who have taken their turn at our helm.
The BA's Patrons are HE Antony Phillipson, British High Commissioner to Singapore, and his wife Julie Phillipson. We are pleased to enjoy good relations with the High Commission and are regularly invited to hold events at Eden Hall, the High Commissioner's official Residence on Nassim Road. Recently these have included a charity lunch for Breast Cancer Foundation, the most recent AGM, the Volunteers' Tea and in 2012 we held a Gala Dinner in the ballroom at Eden Hall to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Look out for the occasional BA tour of the house and gardens followed by morning coffee in the drawing room too!
